MADERA COUNTY, CA — A 79-year-old man from Fresno died early Saturday morning after his Toyota Camry collided with a concrete wall in a rural area of Madera County, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The accident occurred just before 6 a.m. on Avenue 14, west of Road 9. CHP reports indicate the driver did not notice the end of the paved road and continued onto a dirt access path that ended at a metal gate and concrete barriers.
Although he was wearing a seat belt, officers noted that the shoulder strap was improperly positioned behind his back, which may have contributed to the fatal injuries. The driver was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the man’s identity, pending notification of his family. The cause of the crash into a concrete wall in Madera County remains under investigation, and it has not been confirmed whether alcohol or drugs were involved.
