RUNNING SPRINGS, CA — A serious crash on Highway 330 left 20 people injured, most of them minors, after a church bus overturned Sunday night.
The incident occurred just before 9 p.m., shutting down both directions of the highway for several hours while authorities conducted their investigation.
According to reports, three people suffered serious injuries, while the rest sustained minor ones. In total, around 36 adults and teenagers were on board the bus, which was headed to Santa Ana, California.
Witnesses said the bus caught fire moments before it overturned, and the driver tried to maneuver to avoid the crash.
“They were braking, and as they hit the curve, you could tell it was about to flip. He tried to steer it into the wall to stop it, but it didn’t work,” one witness said.
Fortunately, everyone managed to get out of the vehicle, with some escaping through the top hatch of the bus.
Authorities confirmed that DUI is not suspected, though the cause of the bus crash in Running Springs remains under investigation.
