SORRENTO VALLEY, CA – One person lost their life Friday in a fatal crash on I-5 near Sorrento Valley, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The crash occurred shortly after 10 a.m., when a Hyundai Sonata traveling northbound at high speed collided with the center divider near Genesee Avenue. The car then crossed the lanes and struck another wall on the opposite side of the freeway.
The driver became trapped inside the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials confirmed.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the crash, including whether speed or other factors played a role in the fatal collision.
