LOS ANGELES, CA — A hit-and-run in Reseda, Los Angeles, ended in a fiery explosion Wednesday night after three vehicles collided at the intersection of Tampa Avenue and Sherman Way around 10:15 p.m.
One of the vehicles burst into flames. Witness Joshua Cruz said he heard “a huge bang” and came outside to find the car fully engulfed.
According to police, the driver of the burning vehicle fled on foot, leaving behind two passengers who appeared to be intoxicated. Witnesses reported that both were able to exit the vehicle before the explosion.
The LAPD is reviewing nearby surveillance cameras to identify the missing driver and determine whether alcohol played a role in the crash.
The incident comes during an increased CHP enforcement period, following several recent fatal collisions. At least four people have died in three separate freeway crashes since the operation began at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
