BERKELEY, CA — A motorcyclist was killed Sunday afternoon in a serious crash that shut down several lanes of Interstate 80 in Berkeley, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP).
The collision happened shortly after 3:00 p.m. near University Avenue, when the motorcycle collided with two vehicles — an Acura TSX and a Honda Accord. Officials confirmed the rider died at the scene due to the impact.
Both drivers remained at the site and cooperated with investigators. At this time, CHP does not believe alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash on I-80.
The incident forced the closure of multiple eastbound and westbound lanes for several hours, causing heavy traffic delays throughout the area.
