SAN DIEGO, CA (November 18, 2024) – A shooting at a large house party in National City late Friday night left a 12-year-old boy dead and four others injured, according to police.
Officers responded to reports of gunfire at 945 N Ave. around 11:49 p.m. and found an abandoned house hosting a party with over 100 attendees, mostly teenagers and young adults.
The victim, identified as 12-year-old Elijah Smith, was pronounced dead at the scene despite lifesaving efforts. Four male victims were transported to a hospital with injuries. National City police said the suspect or suspects fled before officers arrived, and no arrests have been made.
The party, reportedly advertised on Instagram, turned chaotic as attendees initially mistook the gunshots for part of the loud music. Police continue to investigate and urge anyone with information on the National City house party shooting to contact detectives at 619-336-4411.
