A tour bus crashed into a disabled SUV on the 10 Freeway in Hacienda Heights early Sunday morning, killing one person and injuring more than 30 others.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened shortly after 5 a.m. in the westbound lanes near the Hacienda Boulevard exit. Investigators said an SUV had come to a stop in a traffic lane for unknown reasons when the tour bus, traveling in the same direction, struck it from behind.
The SUV burst into flames following the impact, and its sole occupant died at the scene.
The bus veered across all lanes and slammed into a guardrail before coming to a stop on the shoulder. Thirty-two bus passengers were transported to hospitals, according to CHP Officer Zachary Salazar. Two suffered critical injuries, while the others were treated for moderate to minor trauma.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
