An elderly woman has died following a single-vehicle crash Wednesday afternoon in the South Bay neighborhood of Chula Vista, after her car veered off the road and struck a palm tree.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:39 p.m. on the 200 block of Sea Vale Street. Witnesses reported seeing the vehicle drift out of its lane before colliding head-on with the tree. Emergency responders arrived to find the driver suffering from major injuries.
The unidentified woman was transported to a local hospital, where she later succumbed to her injuries. Officials with the Chula Vista Police Department stated that impairment is not suspected to have contributed to the crash.
