A man was struck and killed in Orange County on Sunday evening while giving a driving lesson to his teenage relative.
The incident occurred around 7:30 p.m. in an industrial area of Rancho Mission Viejo, where the adult male had exited a vehicle to provide hands-on guidance during the lesson, according to the California Highway Patrol. Authorities say the teen driver accidentally accelerated in reverse, pinning the man between the vehicle and a parked truck.
Emergency crews arrived shortly after the crash and pronounced the victim dead at the scene. His identity has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
Investigators have ruled out drugs and alcohol as contributing factors. The California Highway Patrol confirmed the crash appears to be a tragic accident and is still under investigation.
Officials urged families to exercise caution when teaching minors to drive, especially in non-designated areas or locations with limited safety infrastructure.
