A pedestrian was killed Sunday evening after being struck by a vehicle in San Francisco’s South of Market (SoMa) neighborhood.
Local police said the fatal collision happened around 8:30 p.m. near Fifth and Mission streets. First responders arrived to find the victim unresponsive. Despite emergency aid, the person was pronounced dead at the scene.
San Francisco police say the driver remained on-site and is cooperating with the investigation. Authorities have not released the identity of the victim or stated whether speed or impairment played a role.
The area around the intersection was temporarily closed as officers gathered evidence and spoke with witnesses. Police are urging anyone with information or surveillance footage of the incident to come forward.
Pedestrian safety remains a growing concern in the SoMa district, which sees frequent foot traffic due to its proximity to shopping centers and transit hubs.
