Two people were killed Tuesday afternoon in a head-on collision on Highway 41 south of Coarsegold in Madera County, prompting the arrest of a driver suspected of DUI.
The crash occurred around 4 p.m. when the driver of a white utility truck lost control while speeding along the highway. Investigators said another vehicle swerved to avoid the truck, but the truck continued on and struck a Ford Bronco head-on.
Both vehicles careened into a nearby ravine following the collision. Two passengers inside the Bronco were pronounced dead at the scene. The utility truck driver sustained injuries and was taken into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved as the investigation continues.
