
A driver was killed Thursday morning when their vehicle left Highway 37 near Sonoma Raceway and submerged in a nearby waterway.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the incident happened at around 10:30 a.m. on the eastbound stretch of the highway near Sears Point Road and Highway 121. Emergency crew arrived to find the vehicle almost entirely underwater.
First responders were able to pull the driver from the car, but the person was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said. Authorities have not released the victim’s identity, pending family notification.
The cause of the crash is under investigation, and officials have not determined whether impairment played a role. No additional injuries were reported.
