A man was killed Monday morning after being struck by a big rig along Keyes Road, just north of Highway 99 in Stanislaus County.
The incident occurred around 9:30 a.m. when a 48-year-old man driving a 2022 Freightliner tractor-trailer was traveling eastbound. Authorities said an Acura sedan was parked on the right shoulder of the road.
Without warning, the driver of the Acura reportedly exited his vehicle and stepped directly into the path of the oncoming big rig. The Freightliner driver attempted to stop and immediately pulled over after the collision.
The man sustained major injuries and was transported to a nearby medical center, where he later died. His identity has not yet been released.
Investigators have not determined whether the man’s actions were intentional or accidental. The case remains under investigation.
