A 22-year-old man was struck and killed by a passing vehicle Saturday night after his car crashed into a tree in southwest Bakersfield.
The incident occurred around 11:14 p.m. near the intersection of Old River Road and White Oak Drive. Police said the man, identified as Daniel Aguirre, was driving a silver Infiniti coupe southbound when he veered off the road and collided with a tree.
After the crash, Aguirre exited his vehicle and entered the southbound lanes, where he was struck by an oncoming blue Honda sedan. Emergency responders arrived to find Aguirre had already died from his injuries.
The driver of the Honda remained at the scene and cooperated fully with the investigation. Authorities have not indicated that impairment or speed played a role and the investigation is ongoing.
