A 66-year-old Southern California man, Alex Olmedo II, remains in a coma after being struck by a hit-and-run driver while walking a friend’s dogs in downtown Chicago on June 7.
The incident happened around 9:40 p.m. in the 0-100 block of South Michigan Avenue, when Olmedo entered the street to retrieve an excited dog and was hit by a white sedan that fled the scene.
Olmedo sustained severe injuries, including head trauma, punctured lungs, and multiple broken bones. He was transported to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where he remains on life support and in a coma.
The Chicago Police Department’s Major Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the incident. No arrests have been made.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established by Olmedo’s son to assist with mounting medical expenses.
