A driver was arrested on suspicion of DUI after crashing into an outdoor emergency room tent at Sharp Chula Vista Medical Center on Thursday, injuring himself and several others.
The incident happened around 1:15 p.m. when a Honda Accord entered the ER parking lot and collided with the tent, according to Chula Vista Police.
Hospital staff reportedly restrained the driver, identified as 33-year-old Sergio Jimenez of San Diego, until officers arrived. He was transported to a local trauma center with serious injuries.
Three people inside the tent sustained minor injuries. Before striking the tent, Jimenez reportedly hit a gurney, injuring a medic, and crashed into a chain-link fence.
The medic was also hospitalized with potentially serious injuries. Authorities said there is no indication the crash was intentional. The investigation is ongoing.
