A driver was killed early Sunday morning after their vehicle veered off the road and plummeted approximately 70 feet down an embankment in Jamul.
According to Cal Fire San Diego, the crash happened around 6:26 a.m. in the 16000 block of Skyline Truck Trail. Emergency responders arrived to find an SUV overturned on its roof at the bottom of the steep embankment.
The driver, the sole occupant of the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene following extrication efforts.
Crews later used a cable system to pull the heavily damaged SUV back up the hillside.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the deceased. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
