A driver was killed Monday night in a violent crash involving a big rig and a stalled vehicle on Interstate 15 near Hodge Road.
The incident occurred around 9:07 p.m. when a 2023 Honda Civic Sport came to an unexpected stop in the freeway’s traffic lanes, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Moments later, the stationary vehicle was struck from behind by an oncoming 18-wheeler.
The force of the collision severely crushed the Honda, rendering it nearly unrecognizable. Responding crews pronounced the driver dead at the scene. The victim’s identity has not yet been released pending notification of next of kin.
Authorities are investigating the circumstances that led to the Honda stalling in active lanes. No additional injuries were reported, and traffic was temporarily affected during the emergency response and cleanup.
