Yesica Barajas, 31, is now facing two counts of murder in connection with a fatal DUI crash that claimed the lives of her two children earlier this year in Napa County. The charges were formally filed on Wednesday.
The crash occurred on March 16 while Barajas was allegedly driving under the influence with her children—10-year-old Damien Montanez and 9-year-old Aaliyah Montanez—both of whom died in the incident.
Barajas was initially charged with two felony counts of gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury, and two counts of felony child abuse. Prosecutors have since elevated the vehicular manslaughter charges to murder.
She is being held without bail and is scheduled to appear in court on August 12 for a plea hearing and preliminary examination.
