A 31-year-old father and his 7-year-old son were hospitalized with serious injuries Sunday night after their dirt bike collided with another vehicle in Citrus Heights.
The crash occurred around 8:45 p.m. at the intersection of Twin Oaks Avenue and Patton Avenue, according to local authorities. Police say Colton Padjen was riding a dirt bike on the roadway with his son as a passenger when he reportedly failed to stop at a posted sign and was struck by an oncoming vehicle.
Both Padjen and his son sustained serious injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital. They are expected to survive, officials said.
Preliminary findings suggest Padjen may have been under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash. DUI charges have been requested, pending the outcome of the investigation.
