Authorities say the body of a passenger who died from a medical emergency during an international flight to San Francisco is currently unaccounted for.
The incident occurred Sunday as the Airbus A350-941 was flying over Greenland. The passenger reportedly suffered a serious medical emergency mid-flight, prompting the crew to consider diverting the aircraft to an airport in Iceland.
However, the passenger died before the diversion could be completed. The flight instead continued toward North America and landed at an international hub equipped to handle emergency medical situations, officials said.
Medical personnel examined the victim upon landing but found no official records identifying the individual. As of Monday, the victim’s body remains missing, and airport authorities have not disclosed further details.
