20-year-old Isaiah Osorio, a Southern Californian Junior Lifeguard instructor, suffered a life-altering injury to his spinal cord after a tragic accident during duty at Seal Beach.
The incident happened on Friday. Osorio was on a paddleboard teaching lifeguards-in-training rescue techniques when he was suddenly swept over by a wave. The sudden impact caused Osorio to strike his head on the ocean floor.
As of Wednesday night, he remains hospitalized and under treatment.
Peers, family, friends, and community members are coming together in support of Osorio’s recovery. A GoFundMe page was arranged to help Osorio’s family in paying the medical expenses as well as future rehabilitation.
