An 8-year-old girl was killed after being struck by an illegal fireworks display in the 8000 block of Cornflower Circle in Orange County Friday evening.
The fatal incident reportedly happened at about 9:45 p.m.. Officers were patrolling the area after receiving reports of large amounts of fireworks being detonated when they noticed a group of family members hurriedly carrying a child into a nearby home.
The officers rushed over to help and began conducting life-saving efforts on the child before she was rushed to the area hospital. She succumbed to her injuries.
Preliminary investigations revealed that a neighbor had set off a large illegal fireworks display from their street. The homeowner allegedly misfired after igniting the explosives and directly struck the girl who was in her home at the time.
No significant injuries were reported besides the one casualty.
The neighbor was quickly arrested and is facing charges that are still pending review.
