
A 67-year-old man died while in custody of the Kern County Sheriff’s Office on July 21, marking the eighth in-custody death in the county so far in 2025.
Officials said the man was awaiting trial when he was transported to a hospital for undisclosed reasons. He was later pronounced dead at the facility.
Under California law, law enforcement agencies are required to publicly release details of in-custody deaths, including age, gender, and race. The victim’s identity has not yet been released.
The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.
