SAN DIEGO, CA (October 31, 2024) – A 40-year-old woman was fatally struck by a vehicle Thursday night while crossing an intersection in San Diego’s Midway District, according to the San Diego Police Department.
The tragic incident occurred around 9:30 p.m. as the woman crossed at the south end of 3700 Camino Del Rio West and 3000 Kurtz Street, reportedly against a “don’t walk” signal.
Authorities report that a dark-colored vehicle traveling northbound on Rosecrans Street, which becomes Camino Del Rio West at the intersection, struck the pedestrian while proceeding through a green light. The driver fled the scene immediately after the collision, leaving the woman with fatal injuries. Emergency responders pronounced her dead at the scene.
The SDPD Traffic Investigation Unit has taken over the case and is working to determine if impairment played a role in the driver’s actions.
