BAKERSFIELD, CA (November 14, 2024) – A fatal collision on eastbound Interstate 80 in Fairfield early Thursday morning left one pedestrian dead and shut down all lanes for hours, according to the California Highway Patrol.
CHP’s preliminary investigation revealed that a pedestrian ran into traffic on I-80 and was struck by a vehicle. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver involved in the Bakersfield pedestrian crash remained on-site and is cooperating with law enforcement, with CHP reporting that driving under the influence is not suspected.
The closure affected traffic between Travis Boulevard and Air Base Parkway, causing diversions and delays on surrounding streets, including Air Base Parkway, North Texas Street, and Travis Boulevard.
