RIVERSIDE, CA – Deputy Timothy Corlew of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department was killed Wednesday morning in a collision with an SUV on the Riverside 91 Freeway.
The incident occurred around 5:30 a.m. on the westbound lanes at La Sierra Avenue. Corlew, who was assigned to the Jurupa Valley Sheriff’s Station, was riding his patrol motorcycle when the crash took place.
California Highway Patrol officers confirmed the fatal accident but have not released further details. Witnesses reported a collision between Corlew’s motorcycle and a dark-colored SUV, but the investigation is ongoing. The deputy was taken to Riverside Community Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
No arrests have been made from the crash on 91 Freeway, and CHP has stated that criminal charges are unlikely based on current information. Corlew’s death marks the third line-of-duty fatality for the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department in a short span.
Sheriff Chad Bianco expressed deep sorrow over the loss, calling it a tragic day for the department.
