North Hollywood Hit-and-Run Claims Life of 27-Year-Old Leyda Medina

NORTH HOLLYWOOD, CA (August 17, 2024) — In North Hollywood, a tragic hit-and-run incident has left a community in mourning. On Friday night, 27-year-old Leyda Medina was struck and killed by a driver while using the crosswalk at Victory Boulevard and Beck Avenue around 7 p.m.
Leyda was training for a 5K marathon and was on her usual running route when a white Toyota Corolla hit her. The driver, a white man in his 50s, fled the scene without stopping. Leyda was taken to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
The suspect’s car, found abandoned on Victory Boulevard near Troost Avenue, had significant damage, including a cracked windshield. The driver escaped on foot.
Leyda’s husband, Kevin Medina, expressed the profound pain of the loss, revealing that he became alarmed when Leyda did not answer her phone, leading him to discover the tragic news at the hospital.
Detectives urge anyone with information on this North Hollywood hit-and-run or video from the area of Victory Boulevard and Beck Avenue around 7 p.m. on August 16 to come forward.
