Parents Sue SDG&E, San Diego After Daughter Electrocuted Following Car Crash

SAN DIEGO, CA (May 17, 2024) — Angela J. Turner-Sanders is suing San Diego Gas and Electric (SDG&E) and the City of San Diego after her daughter, V’Ctorea Ja’Niese Sanders, was electrocuted following a car crash on August 26, 2023.
The accident occurred on Euclid Avenue at State Route 94 when the vehicle V’Ctorea was in collided with two utility boxes.
The collision dislodged the utility boxes, exposing high-voltage wires. V’Ctorea, who exited the vehicle after the crash, unknowingly touched the wires and was electrocuted on the spot.
Turner-Sanders is seeking accountability for the negligence she believes contributed to her daughter’s death. She emphasizes the need for safety measures to prevent future tragedies, citing the lack of barriers around the utility boxes as a critical oversight. “How many more lives need to be taken before action is taken?” she questioned.
The intersection is known for its high accident rates, with city documents indicating requests for safety improvements dating back to 2017. Despite awareness of the dangers, significant measures were not implemented promptly, contributing to this tragic incident.
The legal representative of Turner-Sanders in the San Diego gas and electric lawsuit pointed out that simple safety measures like cement bollards could have prevented V’Ctorea’s death. SDG&E acknowledged the tragedy but declined to comment on the pending litigation.
