Pedestrian Fatally Struck on Interstate 5 in Bakersfield
BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 3, 2024) — The California Highway Patrol (CHP) responded to a fatal incident involving a pedestrian on Interstate 5 in Bakersfield just before noon on Tuesday.
On July 2, officers from the CHP Bakersfield Communications Center received a report of a man down on I-5, just south of State Route 223. Buttonwillow Area officers arrived at the scene and discovered a male victim on the right shoulder of northbound I-5.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the pedestrian was struck by an unknown vehicle for unknown reasons, resulting in fatal injuries. This Bakersfield pedestrian accident is still under investigation, and it is currently unknown if alcohol or drugs were factors in the crash.
