Pit Bull Attack Raises Safety Concerns in Pomona Neighborhood

POMONA, CA (September 26, 2024) — A Pomona community is on alert after a pit bull attacked a couple walking their three dogs on Saturday morning. Bryan Garcia and his wife, Shanecia Hernandez, were strolling near Palomares Street and Roosevelt Avenue when a black pit bull charged at them from across the street, according to home surveillance footage.
The dog first targeted Hernandez, who was holding two of their small dogs. It then turned its attention to Garcia as he tried to protect their other dog. “The dog just didn’t want to stop and kept going,” Garcia said. Despite sustaining several bites to his hand, he managed to fend off the animal with the help of a passerby wielding a leaf blower.
Neighbors say the pit bull attack in Pomona is not an isolated incident, claiming the same dog and its owner have been a recurring problem for months. “Every time I walk down the street, it’s very scary,” resident Borg Zambrano commented. Residents have reported the issue to police and animal control without resolution, expressing fears that the next attack could involve children.
While Garcia is expected to recover, he and others are urging authorities to take action before more serious harm occurs. The pit bull reportedly escapes through a fence that it can easily push open.
