RICHMOND, CA (July 17, 2024) — A tragic accident claimed the life of 16-year-old Ricardo Funes in Richmond on Sunday night. The teenager was reportedly driving near Ohio Avenue and South 20th Street when his car was struck by a suspected drunk driver. The impact resulted in Funes’ death at the scene.
Funes had been at his aunt’s house to watch the Copa America final and was leaving to drive home when the crash occurred. Witnesses reported that the other vehicle, driven by a 30-year-old Richmond resident, identified as Alexi Pineda Ticas, sped through a stop sign and collided with Funes’ car.
The suspect, who sustained minor injuries, has been charged with manslaughter and driving under the influence. According to Mercury News, he posted bail sometime later.
