San Francisco Driver Arrested After Multiple Hit-and-Runs

SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 8, 2024) — San Francisco police apprehended a male driver Tuesday morning after he struck two pedestrians, including a teenager, and caused damage to multiple vehicles in a reckless escape attempt.
The incident reportedly began around 7:53 a.m. near Jones and Market streets when the suspect allegedly hit an adult pedestrian and fled the scene. Tenderloin district officers found the injured pedestrian and provided first aid until paramedics arrived, who then transported the victim to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Continuing his erratic driving, the suspect hit a teenage pedestrian in the 2100 block of Powell Street. This victim, a Francisco Middle School student on the way to class, was also transported to the hospital with injuries deemed non-life-threatening.
The police pursuit was called off due to the risk the driver posed to public safety after he continued to flee, striking several parked and unoccupied vehicles, reports say. Ultimately, the vehicle was stopped at Embarcadero and Green streets, where the suspect was arrested without further incident. He was later taken to the hospital for minor injuries unrelated to the crashes.
San Francisco Unified School District confirmed that the teen involved is a student at Francisco Middle School. The school has provided counselors to support classmates who witnessed the San Francisco hit-and-run incident.
The case has been forwarded to the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office.
