Semi-Truck Crash Ignites House Fire in Wofford Heights

KERN COUNTY, CA (July 26, 2024) — Kern County Fire Department firefighters responded to a structure fire Thursday afternoon after a semi-truck crashed into a house in Wofford Heights.
The incident occurred around 4:27 p.m. when the truck’s brakes failed while descending Evans Grade. The semi-truck collided with a power pole and a propane tank before crashing into the house. The driver managed to crawl out of the wreckage but suffered burns and life-threatening injuries. He was transported to a local hospital by Liberty Ambulance.
The residents of the home were not present at the time of the crash. The semi-truck crash in Wofford Heights sparked a structure and grass fire, prompting the deployment of air support and wildland crews to contain the flames. Firefighters evacuated nearby homes and alerted neighbors.
The crash site was near Highway 155 and Miller Road, leading to road closures as Forest Service crews worked to extinguish spot fires and cut hand lines. The California Highway Patrol is investigating the incident.
