Tragic Night in South Bakersfield: DUI Crash Claims One Life, Leaves Two Injured
BAKERSFIELD, CA (February 13, 2024) — A catastrophic crash in south Bakersfield on Friday claimed the life of one woman and left two others hospitalized.
The Bakersfield Police Department reported that the collision occurred in the 1900 block of Planz Road when a Chevrolet Tahoe, previously spotted at a car meet on White Lane and Hughes Lane, collided with a white sedan carrying three women.
The devastating impact resulted in serious injuries to all occupants of the sedan, with the driver being pronounced dead at the scene. The two passengers were rushed to the hospital; one has since been released, while the other remains in critical condition.
The SUV’s driver, 25-year-old Arturo Munoz from Bakersfield, was determined to be under the influence at the time of the crash.
Munoz, who has a history of three DUI convictions within the past six years, is now facing charges of homicide, DUI causing great bodily injury, and DUI with three prior convictions. He is currently being held in the Kern County Jail.
