Teen Charged in Fatal High-Speed Chase in Orange County

SANTA ANA, CA (April 26, 2024) — An 18-year-old from Santa Ana, Izaiah Joseph Miranda, has been charged with multiple felonies after a high-speed police chase resulted in the death of a 15-year-old girl.
The chase, which happened on March 8, began when Orange Police responded to a report of a stolen vehicle.
After initially stopping the vehicle and arresting two teens, Miranda fled with Denisse Pilego Roman jumping into the front seat. Reaching speeds of 120 mph on the 22 Freeway, the pursuit ended tragically in Long Beach when Miranda ran a red light and collided with another vehicle, severely injuring Roman who later died in the hospital.
Miranda, who fled the crash site, is now facing charges including vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and evading police, which could lead to over 12 years in prison if convicted.
“A young girl lost her life due to reckless actions that put many others in danger,” stated Orange County District Attorney Todd Spitzer on the Orange County vehicle crash.
