Tractor-Trailer Fire Near Devore Temporarily Closes Southbound I-15 Area
DEVORE, CA (August 1, 2024) — A tractor-trailer fire early Wednesday morning led to the temporary closure of the southbound I-15 near Devore.
According to the California Highway Patrol, the fire started at 5:45 a.m. on July 31, north of Glen Helen Parkway, when the back right tire of a semi-trailer caught fire, partially blocking the slow lane. The driver exited the vehicle and signaled for other drivers to move over.
Firefighters arrived, blocking several lanes and prompting a SigAlert at 6:07 a.m. The fire had spread from two tires to the entire trailer, causing smoke to engulf both sides of the I-15, creating hazardous conditions.
First responders recommended closing the southbound lanes to prevent motorists from driving through the smoke and flames. At 6:42 a.m., all southbound lanes were closed, leading to a backup in the northbound lanes. By 7:30 a.m., the no. 1 and no. 2 southbound lanes reopened while firefighters continued to work on extinguishing the fire in the remaining closed lanes.
