USC Bus and Metro Rail Train Crash in Exposition Park Injures 55
LOS ANGELES, CA (May 1, 2024) — A catastrophic collision between a USC-affiliated bus and a Metro Rail train in Exposition Park, Los Angeles, has resulted in injuries to at least 55 individuals.
The incident occurred just before noon on Tuesday at the intersection of Vermont Avenue and Exposition Boulevard, near the Expo Park/USC station.
Responding to the crash, Los Angeles Fire Department personnel quickly set up triage stations to assess and treat the injured passengers. Initially, it was believed that the bus was empty, however, two individuals on the bus were later transported to the hospital with serious injuries.
In total, 16 people were transported in fair condition, and 37 others were treated at the scene and released.
The LAFD stated, “Multiple train passengers are reporting minor injuries. Crews are triaging all patients and organizing care and transport.” As a result of the accident, Exposition Boulevard has been closed in both directions between Figueroa Street and Bill Robertson Lane, and it remains unclear when it will reopen.
