Willowbrook House Fire Blamed on Homeless Squatters

LOS ANGELES, CA (April 30, 2024) — A recent house fire in the Willowbrook neighborhood of Los Angeles has left several residents homeless, with local community members suspecting homeless squatters as the cause. The fire broke out shortly after midnight on Monday at a residence on 2601 E. 132nd St., which includes several Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) housing tenants.
According to the residents, three individuals previously seen squatting in the backyard fled the scene as the flames erupted. These men, believed to be involved with local street gangs and known for criminal activities, had been living out of their cars and were associated with another nearby fire last week. “These are not any regular homeless; these are criminals connected to drug cartels and street gangs,” community advocate Victor Medina stated.
The Willowbrook house fire resulted in no human injuries; however, it tragically killed about a dozen kittens and chicks. The displaced residents are now receiving assistance from the American Red Cross, which is providing emergency shelter and clothing.
