Woman Pinned and Killed by an SUV in Vermont Square

LOS ANGELES, CA (May 29, 2024) — A 33-year-old woman was killed Monday in the Vermont Square neighborhood of Los Angeles when an SUV jumped the curb during an unsafe turn and crashed into a building, pinning her against the structure.
The incident occurred just after 4:30 p.m. at 1354 W. 46th St., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.
The woman killed by an SUV in Vermont Square, Lisbeth Estrada Rodriguez, was a young mother and local business owner walking home when she was struck by 31-year-old Dwight Williams. Williams made an unsafe turn at high speed, slamming into Rodriguez and propelling her into the building.
“I believe she was instantly killed,” Los Angeles Police Detective Gerald Chavarria told local news agencies. “The impact created a cavernous crater in the building, indicating a high rate of speed.”
Williams was arrested for vehicular manslaughter with gross negligence and booked at LAPD’s 77th Street Station.
