Woman’s Leg Severed by Train in Risky Crossing at Downtown San Diego
SAN DIEGO, CA (October 15, 2024) — A woman was seriously injured and may lose her leg after being struck by a train in downtown San Diego, police said on Monday. The accident occurred when she and others attempted to cross the tracks despite an ongoing train blockade near the Convention Center on 5th Avenue.
San Diego Police Lt. Anthony Reese reported that despite the slow movement of the train and the deployed trolley arms, the individuals did not want to wait. The train’s engineer was unaware that anyone had been hit and did not stop.
First responders at the scene of the San Diego train accident discovered a female who had attempted to cross the tracks and suffered severe injuries.
“One female tried to cross and either slipped and fell or got stuck underneath the train, and her right leg got run over,” Reese stated, noting the possibility that her leg might need to be amputated.
