Young Father Killed by Suspected DUI Driver Outside Tesla Plant [Fremont, CA]

FREMONT, CA (May 21, 2024) — A 26-year-old Oakland man, Taniela “Finau” Hafoka, was tragically killed by a suspected drunk driver outside his workplace, the Tesla plant in Fremont, on May 3 around 11:30 p.m.
Hafoka, who was expecting his fourth child with his wife, was taking a break near a bus stop on Fremont Boulevard when he was struck by a speeding wrong-way driver.
Finau, a forklift driver at Tesla, was known for his infectious smile and positive outlook on life. His older brother, Sione Hafoka, shared that Finau was a loving and devoted husband and father. He leaves behind his wife and three young children, with a fourth child due in a few months.
The Hafoka family has created a memorial at the site of the Tesla employee DUI accident and is focused on honoring Finau’s memory. Despite the tragedy, Sione emphasized Finau’s forgiving nature, stating that his brother would likely forgive the driver responsible.
A memorial service for Finau is planned for May 24. The family is raising funds to support his wife and children and to transport his body back to Utah, his home state. Donations can be made through a GoFundMe page created in his honor.
