14-Year-Old Girl Killed by Car on Balboa Peninsula [Newport Beach, CA]

NEWPORT BEACH, CA (May 26, 2024) — A 14-year-old girl was fatally struck by a car on the Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach on Saturday evening.
Police reports said the incident occurred around 6:45 p.m. near E. Balboa Boulevard and Palm Street. The girl, a pedestrian, was hit by a vehicle driven by 30-year-old Joseph Alcazar of Fontana. Authorities have not released her identity.
Police say Alcazar remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation. Detectives determined that alcohol appeared to be a factor, leading to Alcazar’s arrest for homicide: traffic fatality and cruelty to a child.
The area was closed off for hours as Newport Beach Police Department investigators examined the scene. SkyCal footage showed a white pickup truck stopped in the intersection, with the victim’s body covered nearby. The investigation into the Newport Beach car accident is ongoing, and no further information has been provided.
