Hit-and-Run Driver Injures 12-Year-Old Near Sacramento School
SACRAMENTO, CA (September 27, 2024) — A 12-year-old boy was injured in a hit-and-run collision near Albert Einstein Middle School in Sacramento County on Thursday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The student was crossing the street in a crosswalk near the school when a vehicle struck him and fled the scene. The incident occurred at the intersection of Mirandy Drive and Huntsman Drive. Authorities are searching for a silver Hyundai Santa Fe, model years between 2001 and 2006, that was traveling eastbound on Mirandy Drive at the time.
Principal Chase Tafoya said first aid was administered to the student before first responders transported him to a hospital for additional care. The boy sustained minor injuries and is expected to recover. “We are reaching out to the family and will monitor his condition,” Tafoya reportedly said in a letter to families.
Tafoya added that the school is evaluating safety measures to make routes to school safer. “Unfortunate incidents like this remind us all to be more mindful of safety in and near our neighborhood school zones,” he said. Parents expressed concern about student safety, noting that such accidents undermine their sense of security.
The driver did not stop after the collision, and officers are urging anyone with information on the hit-and-run in Sacramento to contact the California Highway Patrol.
