Deadly Multi-Vehicle Crash in Riverside Shuts Down 91 Freeway
RIVERSIDE, CA (July 16, 2024) — Early Tuesday morning, a series of collisions involving up to eight vehicles led to a deadly incident and the closure of a significant portion of the 91 Freeway in Riverside. The chaos began around 1 a.m. on the northbound 215 Freeway near Center Street, where a massive pileup occurred.
Emergency services had to extricate one individual from a vehicle; this person was immediately transported to a local hospital for treatment. As traffic continued to build, a subsequent crash compounded the disruption. Around 2 a.m., an SUV collided with the rear of a semi-truck on the eastbound 91 Freeway near the 60/215 interchange, close to the site of the initial pileup.
Authorities issued a SigAlert, closing the northbound lanes of the 91 near the interchange to manage the vehicle crash in Riverside and investigate the causes of these collisions.
