One Dead, One Injured in Otay Mesa Freeway Crash

OTAY MESA, CA (June 28, 2024) — Two 19-year-old men were involved in a serious car crash early Monday on an Otay Mesa freeway, resulting in one fatality, authorities reported.
The driver of a BMW 435i lost control for unknown reasons while traveling east on state Route 905 shortly after midnight, according to the California Highway Patrol (CHP). The vehicle veered off the road, hit a guardrail west of Heritage Road, and overturned before rolling side-over-side down an embankment, CHP Officer Salvador Castro said.
Emergency personnel freed the two teenagers from the wreckage. Paramedics pronounced the passenger dead at the scene; his name is being withheld pending family notification. The driver was transported to a hospital with serious injuries. The CHP stated that intoxication is not believed to have been a factor in the Otay Mesa freeway crash.
