Fullerton Man Charged with Manslaughter in High-Speed DUI Crash

FULLERTON, CA (June 19, 2024) — A Fullerton man faces multiple felony charges, including vehicular manslaughter, after a high-speed crash that killed a motorcyclist on June 12.
Authorities say 44-year-old Francisco Garcia-Vargas was driving over 100 miles per hour with a blood alcohol level nearly three times the legal limit when he ran a red light at the intersection of Orangethorpe Avenue and Gilbert Street. Garcia-Vargas’s BMW struck 28-year-old Alexander Marce, who was stopped at the light on his Harley-Davidson.
The impact knocked Marce off his motorcycle, which became stuck beneath Garcia-Vargas’s car. Garcia-Vargas continued driving for several hundred yards before coming to a stop. Witnesses at the scene pulled Garcia-Vargas from his vehicle and detained him until police arrived.
Garcia-Vargas has been charged with gross vehicular manslaughter while intoxicated, DUI causing injury, and driving with a blood alcohol content of .08% or higher. He faces a maximum sentence of 10 years if convicted on all counts in the Fullerton DUI crash.
Marce died at the scene. A GoFundMe page has been established to support his family and friends during this tragic time.
