Horrific Boating Mishap: Arm Entangled in Lake Camanche Accident [Calaveras, CA]
CALAVERAS COUNTY, CA (June 16, 2024) — A boating incident at Lake Camanche near Moccasin Campgrounds in Calaveras County led to a serious injury on Monday afternoon, as reported by the Calaveras County Sheriff’s Office.
The Lake Camanche boat accident happened at around 1 p.m. when a person’s arm was severely injured after becoming entangled in a rope during a tubing activity.
According to deputies, a personal watercraft was towing an individual on an inflatable tube. The rope used for towing was not securely attached to the watercraft and had detached multiple times prior to the accident.
In an attempt to manage the situation, the victim was coiling the rope around his arm. Meanwhile, another individual piloting the watercraft circled back towards the victim, during which the watercraft’s propulsion system inadvertently sucked in the rope. This caused the victim’s arm to be pulled forcefully towards and under the watercraft, leading to it becoming entangled.
Quick actions by friends and a lake manager, who arrived to cut the rope, likely prevented further injury. The victim managed to stay above water and was subsequently transported to a hospital for treatment.
This incident highlights the critical importance of safety measures and proper equipment handling while engaging in water sports and activities.
