It was only when a friend recognized Ryan’s photo on the NamUs website, a resource for missing and unidentified persons, that the truth came to light. The Lim family’s attorney criticized the Medical Examiner’s Office for its inaction and lack of care, noting that they failed to perform their basic duties of identifying the deceased and notifying next of kin.
