Pedestrian Critically Injured in Chollas Creek Traffic Incident
SAN DIEGO, CA (April 8, 2024) — A severe traffic collision in San Diego’s Chollas Creek neighborhood left a pedestrian with life-threatening injuries on Sunday evening. The incident occurred just before 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of University Avenue and 54th Street.
According to the San Diego Police Department (SDPD), a 35-year-old man was crossing University Avenue when he unexpectedly changed direction and stepped in front of a northbound Toyota sedan that had the right of way with a green light.
The car struck the pedestrian, causing critical injuries including a brain bleed, a fractured left fibula, and a liver laceration. The 69-year-old driver of the Toyota was unharmed.
The injured pedestrian was immediately taken to a hospital; his current medical status remains uncertain. SDPD has confirmed that alcohol was not a factor in the Chollas Creek pedestrian accident, and their Traffic Division is continuing the investigation.
